Camilo and Sara Gonzalez

Serving in Africa Lusophone on Global Deployment | Africa

Camilo and Sara Gonzalez, along with their children, are specialized assignment missionaries on the Africa Lusophone Field on the Africa Region. They serve as the Work & Witness Coordinators for the Lusophone Field, which includes the Portuguese-speaking countries of Angola, Cabo Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, and São Tomé e Príncipe, and the Spanish-speaking country of Equatorial Guinea. They currently live in the island country of Cabo Verde.

Camilo is originally from Venezuela, and Sara is from Shelbyville, IN. Camilo is a graduate of Ivy Tech Community College with an Associate’s degree in Applied Sciences, with a focus on Construction. Sara is a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing, and she holds a Master’s of Science degree in Nursing Leadership/Administration from Ball State University.

Growing up in Venezuela, Camilo worked closely with the missionaries there, learning about their ministry and becoming part of the work of the church in Venezuela. During this time working with missions as a teen, he felt the Lord calling him into full time missions. Camilo has worked in commercial and residential construction, and he served as the Music Minister and local Work & Witness Coordinator at Shelbyville First in Indiana. Camilo has served on short term missions trips in different countries, including Venezuela, Mexico, Peru, and Guatemala.

Sara has worked in various nursing roles professionally and served in different areas of her local church. She has served in nursing leadership, music ministry, assisting in Children's Bible Quizzing, as a local NMI President, and on the District NMI Council. Sara felt a call to missions as a teen after her first W&W trip to Venezuela. She served on medical teams to Guatemala and Nicaragua, and construction teams to Guatemala and Venezuela.

Camilo and Sara married in 2002 in Venezuela and served locally there for a short time. They moved to the US at the end of 2003, serving in local ministry until they received the call to Africa in 2017. They have 3 children that join them in ministry. Landon is 14 and enjoys soccer, reading, and working with his dad. Kyle is an adventurous 11 year old who loves drawing comics and Marvel characters, reading, and soccer. Adriana is 8 years old and is a social butterfly that loves soccer, singing, learning new languages, and keeping up with her brothers. The Gonzalez family has a passion for missions and is excited to see how the Lord continues to use them in ministry.

Please pray for them as they organize Work & Witness on the Africa Lusophone Field, that the Lord will open doors for new projects and teams as they work with the people in Portuguese and Spanish speaking Africa. Pray for them to have wisdom in project development and decisions that are made for Work & Witness throughout the field.

Going Where the Church is Not Yet

Today there are over 4.3 billion people who live in areas where there is little to no gospel witness. 4.3 billion people who have not heard the message of the gospel, who have never heard the name of Jesus. We believe that everyone deserves to hear. God continues to call the Church of the Nazarene to spread the message of the gospel, to preach holiness, and to bring good news to the poor all over the world. The task is enormous; far too big for anyone to do alone, but together we can go where the church is not yet and see people, communities, and nations transformed. Reaching these people begins with one step, a step of obedience and faithfulness that says yes to God’s call. Take your first step and start your journey toward serving in missions today.
